Alice Chater: A Year In Review

Booming vocals and sweet pop tracks – Alice Chater is poised to take over pop music in the coming years. 2018 has seen the star’s rise move through the gears to reach more fans than ever before. Those in the know are aware of the diamond they’ve found, Alice Chater has it all.

January kicked off with Alice flexing her dance moves in a Musical.ly advertisement for 2017’s ‘Hung Up’, a Madonna remix loaded with the Chater-pop spirit. Meanwhile, hours of studio time were being put in to prepare that solo material that fans have fallen in love with over the last 12 months. Shortly after, in early February, a deal with Select Model Management was announced which saw Chater join other musical talents such as Josh Cuthbert and Kara Marni.

A week later and Chater debuted the full visuals for her ‘Hung Up’ cover. Serving uncanny 2018 Madonna likeness, if there was any doubt over the young pop star’s potential, this video proved that to not be the case.

2018 was also a year of big support sets for Chater. Starting with warming up for Seal’s sold out London Palladium show, slots with the likes of MNEK, Professor Green and Jessie J also followed throughout the year.

Making the most of her ever-growing platform, the singer has also spoken out about important causes over the past 12 months. In March she shared her support for those marching against gun violence in America, wished LGBTQ+ fans a happy pride in June as well as performing on London Pride’s main stage.

2018’s new releases started in April as the star teased what was to come in a video, ‘My Name Is Alice – Alice Chater’. It was Halloween come early with the young star sprawled in a spider net whilst haunting introductory phrases and window-shatteringly high vocals surrounded her. But it was all there. Energy, movement, visuals and vocals – the talents that make her just so special.

Shortly after, debut single ‘GIRLS X BOYS’ was released into the world on 19thApril with a dark, raunchy music video, premiered on Wonderland, following shortly after. Bubbling, infectious pop, ‘GIRLS X BOYS’ was a debut single of the highest calibre. As the track’s pop prowess made its way around music fans, it was played as BBC Radio 1’s Best New Pop just weeks after release. A remix and acoustic version of the track for Clash Magazine also followed, fans lapping up every version Chater put her touch to.

‘Heartbreak Hotel’ came next in July and has already gone on to hit nearly 280,000 streams, becoming the star’s most iconic release to date. Showing a funkier side of Chater, another jaw-dropping visual and a spot as BBC Radio 1’s Track of the Week were also earnt.

As the summer months came rolling in, Chater played her first festival show at Rize Festival and announced her first headline show for November at London’s Thousand Island. Ahead of that show the pop star dropped the third single of the year, ‘Hourglass’, and showed her acrobatic skills in the music video which hit Number 1 on the iTunes Music Video chart. Deservedly so too. Chater’s videos always ooze an exuberance like no other and as time moved on, they keep getting better and better. The clip for ‘Hourglass’ is unstoppably perfect.

By the time that November show came around, Thousand Island was sold out. Pop fans and excited music critics alike were out in force, ready to see exactly what the up-and-coming superstar had to offer. What resulted was a frenzy of glowing reviews and taste for more as fans left the show stunned.
