EXCLUSIVE: Singer Paxton Ingram Talks Experience on 'The Voice' and New Single "D.I.R.T.Y"

Paxton Ingram, a singer and dancer from Miami, Florida, just released his new single “D.I.R.TY,” which you can stream on Spotify by clicking HERE. The release of the track follows Ingram’s debut hit “Bad Luck,” which came out earlier this year in January.

Ingram rose to fame on season 10 of reality competition show The Voice, where he first impressed the judges – Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton – with a performance of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own.”

As the season progressed, Ingram eventually joined Blake Shelton’s team and continued to wow not only the judges, but viewers across the country with performances of pop hits “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Hands to Myself.”

Now two years since his time on The Voice, Paxton Ingram is working on creating his own hits, with the release of singles “Bad Luck” and  “D.I.R.T.Y.”

CelebMix recently had the chance to ask Paxton Ingram about his experience on The Voice, his new single “D.I.R.T.Y” and his future plans.

Could you tell us about your musical background? You said that growing up, you were a dancer. Did you always sing too, or is that something you picked up later in life?

Growing up I was always singing. Everywhere I went, I sang. If there was even the smallest platform I would get on top of it as if it was my stage and go IN! The dream has always been “The Stage.” Dancing captured my heart in high school after I randomly auditioned for the dance team and made it. I skipped track and field practice to help out a friend who was too nervous to audition alone and from that point on, dance became a huge part of my life and who I am.

Could you explain what you mean by “The Stage”?

My ultimate goal has always been “The Stage.” Something comes alive in me whenever I perform, it’s spiritual – that’s the only way to describe it. I feel like my the ultimate form of release and expression to perform live. To move a crowd, to bring them joy for a moment, to be able to share my gift to inspire someone watching to do the same, it’s the best part of my job.

Why did you decide to audition for ‘The Voice’?

I decided to audition for The Voice because I wanted something greater with my life. I was working three jobs back to back and I had to break free from that situation. I knew I had a gift that was being wasted away in a mall, so I decided to jump.

How did your experience on the show help you prepare for your current career?

The experience on the show definitely left me well-equipped, mentally. I knew exactly who I was as an artist, what I wanted to say, what I wanted it to sound like, and how I wanted it to look. I’m able to perform on any stage now because of that experience, it really changed me for the better.

What have you been working on since appearing on ‘The Voice’ in 2016?

I’ve been making music non-stop. Ever since the show ended I decided to stay in LA to continue to enjoy the wave and momentum, and to continue pursuing the goal.

How would you describe your sound now?

Now I describe my sound as Progressive Pop infused with Hip Hop. I love to live in an envelope – pushing sonicsphere.

What is your single “Bad Luck” about?

Bad Luck is a record I wrote about falling in love with the chase of unrequited love. It’s typically what happens to me most of the time, and I was happy to find out I wasn’t alone. My fans would write me telling me they go through the same thing, so I love that people can relate to it.

You recently performed at SXSW. What was that like?

SXSW 2018 was one of the wildest experiences ever! The energy in the city was electric, everyone coming together for music – you can’t beat that synergy! I honestly feel like I played one of the best shows of my life this past year in Austin. The crowd was insane – it  was packed all the way to the wall with everyone jumping and screaming my songs..I felt like Michael!

You have a new single out called “D.I.R.T.Y.” What can you tell us about it?

D.I.R.T.Y is a HUGE record for me. It’s a much bigger sound than I’ve ever done, which I’m particularly excited about and I think people are going to be surprised when they hear it and they’re going to fall in love with it instantly.

What do you have planned for the rest of 2018?

More music, more shows, more visuals! The plan is to keep running this race and take it all the way!

Finally, what would you like to say to our CelebMix readers?

Thank you Celebmix for having me and to anyone reading this. Dream wilder, dream bigger, and stop at nothing to make them come true. Anything is possible. Blessings xx
