Tonight on NBC World renowned chef Gordon Ramsay’s television series Hell’s Kitchen where aspiring chefs compete returns with an all new Wednesday November 26, season 13 episode 11 called, “8 Chefs Compete,” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, the remaining eight chefs compete in a blind taste test, during which wrong answers lead to a dip in a dunk tank, and the winning team gets to spend the day at the Santa Monica Pier. Later, there’s a special dinner service honoring firefighters that doesn’t go as well as Chef Ramsay wanted.
On last week’s episode, after two contestants left the competition, Chef Gordon Ramsay challenged the remaining contestants to an Indian cuisine challenge. Contestants had to match complimentary ingredients to create four Indian-inspired meals. The team that earned the most points from Chef Ramsay and guest chef Sundar Bains of All Spice Indian Restaurant, would win a day of pampering at the luxurious Willow Spa, while the losing team would prepare for the next dinner service. Later during the dinner service, the teams had to once again attempt to impress the HELL’S KITCHEN VIP guests at the Indian Cuisine night. As one team lead the dinner service due to effective communication, the other team couldn’t stand the heat – or each other – and continued to mess up their stations. Did you watch the last episode? Now on #HellsKitchen, Gordon sends them all off to bed after the elimination. They talk by team and the Bryant says he will work harder to be part of a team. Sade complains about being stuck with Bryant. Fernando says he’s waiting on the blind tasting challenge and says they can take down the red team. They get a call to head outside the next morning.
Gordon has a giant tarp over something. He tells them their palates are very important and says the blind taste test is a big one. Fernando is excited. Gordon says individual results will affect the team and the team mates. They pull the tarp and you see dunk tanks. Gordon says two correct answers out of four keeps your teammate dry. Three wrongs gets your teammate dunked and another wrong, dunked again.
La Tasha and Bryant are sent to the drunk takes and Roe and Santos are tasting. They put on blindfolds and they get ready to taste. They also have on earphones so they can’t hear anything. First up is fig. He feeds Santos and he guesses pear. Roe guesses plum. Next is kale. They each taste. Santos says cabbage and Roe says hard. That’s two wrong each. One more and their partners get dunked.
Next is celery root. They taste. Santos says carrot and so does Roe. La Tasha and Bryant are in the drink. Next is prosciutto. Santos says chicken fat and Bryant is ducked again. Roe says bacon and that’s a win and gets them one point. Next is Sterling and Fernando tasting and Roe and Santos on the dunk chairs.
They both miss two right away. Next is mascarpone. Sterling gets it but Fernando thinks it was parsnip and Santos goes into the tank. Last is peanut. Sterling gets it but Fernando thinks it’s almonds. Santos is back in the water. Jennifer and Sade are up. They miss their first three and that puts Sterling and Fernando in the water. Last is shitake mushroom. Sade gets it right, that’s one for blue. Jen misses and red is stuck at three.
Next La Tasha and Bryant with Sade and Jen on the wet seats. First is potato and they both get it right. Next is pepper. La Tasha misses. Bryant misses lamb and so does La Tasha. Next is mozzarella. La Tasha misses and Bryant is in the water. Bryant gets it and Sade stays dry. The results are a tie and Gordon says it’s sudden death. They each nominate one to go again.
They send Roe up against Bryant to break the tie. The red team turned down Sterling even though he did better and send up Roe instead. They first get fennel. Bryant misses. Roe gets it right and that gives the red team the reward. Bryant tells his team he’s sorry. Gordon says that was the most exciting taste test they’ve ever had.
The red team is headed to the Santa Monica Pier with a nice lunch at The Lobster. The blue team will be cleaning the dorms all day. He says swept, scrubbed, polished, carpets vacuumed and kitchen spotless. The red team has won four in a row. They head out for fun and says the blue team must be used to losing by now.
At the pier, they head to the games and see a knock the blocks down game with the blue team’s faces on them. Next they head to the rides. Jennifer is a little scared of the roller coaster. Sterling tells them all – hands up and they are ready to go again but Jen wants off. They don’t let her. The blue team is cleaning and says it smells like an old woman’s house.
Sade complains as they head to clean the bathrooms and says it’s gross. The red team heads to The Lobster for lunch. It has a great view and really fresh seafood. Sterling says he’s living ghetto fabulous right now. The blue team is arguing over how to clean the floors. Santos is scrubbing the floor and Sade critiques him for not sweeping first. He is annoyed with them.
The red team comes back to find them still cleaning. They want to nap but Gordon calls and tells them all to come to his office right now. They head off at a run. He says he has news for them. He says he’s closing Hell’s Kitchen to the public tonight and will have a VIP dinner instead. The guests are firefighters. He says many of them have won the Director’s Award – the highest honor for that job.
He tells the red team to go get dressed and they do then they all head down to start service. Gordon lines them all up and says tonight is a serious test of individual leadership qualities. He says at the final eight it should be all talent. They each have a twelve top to serve a gourmet five course menu. They each get to lead one course.
They will serve at the same time. The guests are arriving soon and he tells them to get started now. The firefighters come in and the red team is on it. Gordon welcomes the firefighters and says it’s an honor to serve them this evening. First up is scallop risotto. Fernando and Roe are the leaders for the appetizer course. Gordon asks why they already seasoned the scallops.
He tells Roe to get it together. Roe and Fernando go explain the course to the diners then come back to present the plates. Gordon tells them to hurry. Red team is plating and he pushes on the blue to start plating too. The blue team realizes they don’t have enough risotto. They are screwed. Gordon chews out Fernando and says they aren’t serving until they’re all together. He’s screaming (as usual).
Blue will have to refire their apps. It’s 25 minutes into the service. Fernando furiously makes more risotto. They start plating. The red team realizes they didn’t lay out enough plates. The blue team is plating again and Fernando calls for scallops. Gordon yells at Roe as the blue team serves theirs. The red team is close behind serving theirs.
Now it’s Jennifer and Santos with seared tuna. Santos says he has to show Fernando how real chefs do this. Bryant is annoyed that Santos asked him to do everything on his course. They have six minutes and Gordon pushes on them. They are working salads and have the tuna and potatoes down. Sterling says the red team is smooth like a car motor. He has nothing to do and Gordon criticizes them.
Jen sends Sterling to check on potatoes in the oven and he’s lagging on listening. She orders him to pull plates and tells him play time is over. She has him running crazy now. Jennifer and Santos go out and explain their course then go back. Santos is standing there chatting, chatting instead of coming back. Gordon wonders what he’s doing – sounds like he’s giving the birth story of each ingredient. TMI.
Santos puts on finishing touches and Bryant is annoyed with him for slacking. Jen coaches the plating as Sterling works. The red team is still plating and the blue team is done. He sends the blue and tells Jennifer she took too long. The red teams is sent as well. Sade and Sterling are doing the first entree – pan seared salmon.
La Tasha is worried about how Sterling will handle the pressure. Roe asks Sterling to come taste cauliflower and he does. He sends the two leaders to go announce their courses. They go out flustered after being yelled at when Sterling spit on Gordon accidentally. Jennifer says the women are handling the dish since Sterling is slacking.
Sade is under control on her side and calling orders but Gordon says the salmon is overcooked. He says you can’t sear and leave it in the pan and shows her how overcooked it is. Santos says they are f-d and Gordon asks James if they have any more salmon to bring in. The diners wonder what’s taking so long with the entree. James says he thinks there is more salmon in the back and goes to bring more out.
Gordon tells at the blue team and tells them to get it the f- together. The red team has theirs plating. Sade is working on her plating too. The red teams takes their plates and the blue team lags a little behind but is then served too. The diners seem pleased with the food. Finally, Bryan and La Tasha are on the beef course. She tells Sterling to season the meat at four minutes til window.
Bryant calls out orders to the team to try and keep them on point. Santos is being an idiot and Bryant is getting annoyed with him. He tells him to pull the plates and they are plating. Red team is plating and it looks good. Blue team is slicing but then Santos starts ruining a piece of beef by shredding it instead of cleaning slicing. Bryant demonstrates how to do it and Gordon says to speed up.
He tells blue team their plates look good and both teams send theirs out. Gordon tells them the firemen and their guests went home happy but Gordon says he’s not because they fell short of expectations. He tells each team to nominate two for elimination and sends them upstairs. La Tasha says Sterling is definite and he gets mad. Roe defends herself but La Tasha says she wants to send Roe and reminds her she got kicked out of service once before.
Fernando tells the others he didn’t feel they were supporting him during his course. Sade says she supported him. Santos says he thinks he did well but Bryant thinks the opposite. Sade says Santos was nowhere to be found when they were plating. Santos doesn’t think he should be on the chopping block then says Sade should be nominated since she overcooked her salmon. She says she figured out her mistake but Fernando says Gordon was the one that pointed it out.
The two teams come down for the nominations. Gordon says they were all slightly lost and clumsy and disappointed him. The red team says Roe is up because she was inconsistent and had errors on dinner service. Sterling is the other nominee. The blue team nominates Fernando for lack of confidence tonight and he disagrees. Second is Santos for not leading well tonight.
Gordon calls the four down. They stand in front of him and Gordon asks Santos why he should stay. Santos says he has more passion than anyone and says he’s Boston strong. Fernando says he’s very consistent and has shown leadership. Fernando says they feel threatened by him but the team says no. Roe says she has proven that she’s strong and has leadership skills. Sterling says he’s a good communicator and doesn’t yell but leads by example.
Gordon sends Sterling and Roe back to the line. He tells Santos he’s staying too. He tells Fernando that he puts food on a plate like a proper chef but isn’t ready to be a leader. He takes his jacket and sends him off. Fernando says it’s surreal that he’s leaving when others don’t have his potential. He says he has more technique and passion than anyone there.
Gordon tells them tomorrow their creativity will be put to the test and sends them all out. Sterling says he’s been on the block so many times but they can’t send him home. Santos says they all need to watch out for him now, particularly Bryant. Gordon says being his next head chef requires both cooking skills and leadership skills.
THE END!
