Nadia Nakai (full name Nadia Nakai Kandava) is a South African rapper and songwriter. She is the co-host of MTV Base hip hop show, Yo! MTV Raps South Africa alongside television presenter Siyabonga Ngwekazi.
In 2014, Nadia featured on Riky Rick’s ‘Amantombazane Remix’ alongside established hip-hop acts such as Okmalumkoolkat, Kwesta, Ginger Trill, Kid X and DJ Dimplez. The single was nominated for a South African Hip Hop Award for Song Of The Year. In 2015, Nadia featured on Dj Sliqe’s Metro FM Award nominated single, ‘Do Like I do Remix’ featuring L-tido, Reason, Riky Rick and Flabba. Nadia’s single, “Saka Wena” featuring artist Ice Prince was nominated for the Best Collaboration Award at the South African Hip Hop Awards. Nadia’s follow-up single, “Best” featuring M.I(Agaba) and Victoria Kimani was received positively.
She attended Fourways High School in South Africa for one year before moving to Kenya, where she completed her studies. She went on to Monash University, Johannesburg, where she studied Marketing, Communication, and Media Studies.
She was born on 18 May 1990 in South Africa. She was born Nadia Dlamini, but changed to her mother’s surname when she was 16.
Her father is South African and her mother is Zimbabwean.
