Showcasing their alternative indie-rock, Otherish double drop their latest singles and music videos, titled “The Good, The Real, The Beautiful” and “The Strange Rain”. The band continue to release their awesome unique sound that continues to see them grow as a collective group. The release of these double singles acts as the follow-up to their previous single, “If Only”.

Otherish are a four-piece Irish-English indie-rock band consisting of George Claridge, Paul Bradley, Mark Bradley, and Francis Kane. Brothers, Paul and Mark Bradley have known Francis Kane since birth as Francis was born into the same home as the Bradleys, just days apart from Paul. In the ’80s, they each individually relocated to Bristol from Northern Ireland. They later met George Claridge, who is English but was born in Wales. They formed the Bristol-based band, Me, in the ’90s alongside Nick Scooper (who joined in ’93 and still has a presence on Otherish tracks even after his passing in 2018), and NME even went as far as stating that Me was the best band in Bristol, at the time. From those days of performing in empty halls to receiving critical acclaim for their sophomore album “Gone Wrong Rainbow Blues”, Otherish has proven that their experience of working together for multiple decades has allowed them to strike gold, build a fanbase, and gain listeners who will play their songs on repeat. They are gearing up to release their third studio album, titled “how lucky we are being us and each other”, which is set to be an alternative indie-rock collection of tracks full of integrity and honesty, with singles “If Only”, “The Good, The Real, The Beautiful”, and “The Strange Rain” all appearing in on the full-length LP. The album, “how lucky we are being us and each other”, is set to drop on 28 July 2023.

Talking about “The Good, The Real, The Beautiful”, Francis Kane said: “‘The Good, The Real, The Beautiful’ takes place in a small club. We hear [bassist] George [Claridge] arrive and open the door. A band is playing. George starts singing to the music being played. Francis and Paul join him. When he gets to the end of the song, there is no response from the audience, and we hear him leave. People who know about Otherish will notice that ‘The Good, The Real, The Beautiful’ is lyrically identical and melodically similar in its opening line to ‘Dreams He’s Awake’ on our last album. So…oh can I just say a story is being told there, in two chapters.”

He also spoke about “The Strange Rain”, saying: “Lyrically…it avoids all personage. There is no ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘us’, ‘them’, ‘her’ or ‘him’ in the song. The words are about lack of agency, about being subject to sensation, about sucking it up, this harsh reality, and keeping going. They describe responses to a limited range of sweeties in the bag as it were. The rain is a metaphor for all our suffering I guess but I’m afraid even I don’t fully know. The words of the song began as I channelled what a friend was going through on chemo and other medications. I let myself just sing in a gibberish flow, trusting my feeling that these words were real and true and reaching out beyond the cages of the conscious mind.”

Really honing in on their alternative indie sound, Otherish impresses with their double singles and music videos. “The Good, The Real, The Beautiful” is empowered through awesome instrumental sound that combines to create a rhythmic vibe and ethereal energy. The backing track convalesces around the vocals matching the passion and the soul heard throughout. The accompanying music video sees a tonne of close-up shots of various things in the world from flowers to signs to walls which is intercut with wide shot scenes of parks, fields, and a train station; the entire visual comes together to showcase the good, the real, and the beautiful scenes and images that can be found on this earth.

Then there’s “The Strange Rain” which brings a totally different vibe and effortlessly showcases Otherish’s versatility. The track has an indie-pop-rock energy to it, showcasing the band’s instrument skills with the upbeat rhythm and consistent melody with the drums taking centre stage – even the vocals blend in with the track. “The Strange Rain” is one of those tracks that is going to stick with listeners and it’s these sorts of songs that build excitement for their third studio album, “how lucky we are being us and each other”. The music video sees the band in their element, recording the track in the studio and allowing each band member to take the spotlight. While we don’t get to see Francis Kane recording the vocals of the track, we do see him singing the song under some plant cover and he unknowingly adds depth and emotion as he sings the track – it’s clear the song means a lot to him. The visual has a rain effect edited in, relating it to the title of the song.
